Evaluate

When is the last time you tested to see if you are making improvement?  Nick just “baselined” and knocked 20 seconds off his time.  It is important to evaluate your fitness at regular intervals to make sure you are making the improvements you need to.  These evaluations are specific to the  individual and the time of year.  If you need help determining what you should be evaluating, let us know we are here for you.

Sandbags

Mix up your workouts with a heavy sandbag.

Recovery

At the end of a hard (typically cardio in nature and lasting 60 minutes or more) workout it has been proven that chocolate milk is an effective recovery drink.  Read about one study here done at CWU that compares chocolate milk to a commercial recovery beverage.  One thing to keep in mind when you are drinking any beverage for performance is that you need to properly match the quantity (i.e. calories) with the effort of the workout.  The definition of a hard workout is relative, most of our members won’t need a recovery drink when they get back from walking the dog around the block  . . . .

Heavy Thrusters

Nice work to Tyler (on the right) who recently got his first muscle up.

Comfortable?

Over the past few days a few of members accomplished some of their posted goals.  Donni skied off of the summit of Mt Baker, in her quest to ski all the PNW Volcanoes.  Jesse accomplished his goal of losing 30 lbs before July.  John had a succesful bear hunt up in Alaska. Congrats you guys!

Cathy and I were discussing how so many people are not comfortable with being uncomfortable.  Sounds a bit strange to those who don’t do the things our members do.  They know that all the grinding effort, long hours, and attention to fuel we use - will pay  dividends and take them to the next level.  It might mean saddle sores, blisters, long runs, or having the discipline to eat clean.  What ever your “uncomfortable” is, you better learn to embrace it or you’ll never reach your goals.

Teams

This is a shot of one the WVC Soccer team members.  We are also working with the WVC womens Basketball team.  The work that these ladies are doing is improving their mental and physical toughness.  Both coaches have shared with us how these workouts increased their overall fitness and  sports performance.  This style of work also brings teams together when they see how hard each of their teammates  are working, as Mark Twight says “there is salvation in suffering”.
