Winners

Congrats to Cora and Julie Morely for winning their respective divisions  in the Du last weekend.

Nice work to Felocity and John D for killing it on the Airdyne Challenge last week.

It’s great to see all the new folks showing up down here.  Thanks to our members for making last month our best yet.  The energy in the gym is contagious as everyone trains hard for the real world.

Consistent

I can’t tell you how stoked I am for Mike Young who got his first pull up yesterday!   Here is a shot of his second, a day later.  Maybe you can tell from the photo, but he is a big boy weighing in at 300# at 6′-5″ and this was not an easy task.  He’s been working on this for about 7 weeks, ever since we posted the goal challenge.   He has been consistent in his efforts and made it a priority in his workouts.  Next goal for Mike (after a talk with the Dr.) is to drop a few benchmark “health” numbers without the help of the Pharmaceutical Industry.  I know that he’ll attack that with same consistency that he did his pull ups and he’ll achieve that as well.  Great job Mike.

How consistently are you attacking your goals? Once a week? Once a day? Throughout the day?

Complete

It’s hard to believe that this was Spencer’s first TGU.  I’m not too sure how he’s avoided this complete exercise for that long.  Good focus my friend.

Tire Races

A few shots from a pick up tractor tire race that happened the other night.  Just some of the fun hard work our members do.

I was talking with one of our members who rode her bike to the gym the other night.  She was commenting how she was a minute faster on her bike than when she drove to the gym.  I found this observation interesting, not that she rode to the gym  (I truly believe in riding more and driving less), but that she timed her ride and compared.  This timing and comparing is one of the many ways we can challenge ourselves and get better.  I also think that this attention to detail defines most of our athletes and seperates them from the standard gym member.  Are you paying attention?

persistent

Nice work Brian on your first Muscle Up!  It’s been awesome for us to watch you make progress on this week by week since the new year.  I wish I would have had a camera to catch the surprised-stoked look on your face after you got that first one.  It was awesome to feel the energy in the gym after your effort.  All ten or so of us quit what we were doing and just clapped and hooted, the stoke was contagious.

It’s amazing what one can accomplish with consistency.

Training with Coach Rip

After getting a nasty bug and taking most of last week off, Cathy rallied hard for her long awaited barbell certification.  She was surrounded by 200-300 pound men (see 70′s Big for examples) and heavy barbells as she learned how to perform and coach the old school lifts; deadlift, press, bench press, squats and cleans.   The highlight of the weekend was the opportunity to learn from renowned strength training coach, Mark Rippetoe.  The weekend was packed with 19 hours of intense instruction and some of the funniest jokes ever told.  Remember what Coach Rippetoe says “Only ****ies don’t squat”.

She returned home with sore hamstrings and renewed excitement, anxious to share with the ICG athletes. So be ready folks to go to the corner and pick up and put down some barbells. . . .
